Control of the United States Senate could take weeks to determine as Alaska counts ballots cast across 586,000 square miles, the New York Post reported. The key race pits incumbent Republican Dan Sullivan against Democrat Mary Peltola. The New York Post reported that the state has 600,000 registered voters and ballot counting could stretch two weeks past Election Day. [1]

The election faces legal challenges involving a second candidate on the ballot named Dan Sullivan. PBS NewsHour and NPR reported that the Department of Justice requested that officials separate ballots cast for the second Dan Sullivan candidate. The Washington Post confirmed that an Alaska prosecutor launched a criminal probe into claims surrounding the second candidate. [3][4][5][6]

The Federal Bureau of Investigation visited a donor in the hometown of candidate Dan J. Sullivan as part of the widening inquiry, according to CBS News and PBS. CBS News reported that Daniel J. Sullivan left his Alaska hometown prior to the election. The BBC reported that an Alaska Senate candidate denied knowing about an alleged plot involving two candidates named Dan Sullivan. [7][8][9]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, federal authorities are conducting criminal and civil inquiries into whether a retired teacher named Dan J. Sullivan was placed on the ballot to confuse voters.
