Canadian Climate and Environment Minister Julia Dabrusin stopped short of explicitly endorsing the European Union carbon border tax, Euronews reported. An internal document from December 2025 seen by Euronews indicates that the minister is reluctant to openly commit to cooperation on the climate policy because Ottawa is seeking an exemption from the levy. [1]
Dabrusin defended industrial carbon pricing as a tool to cut emissions and protect businesses from unfair competition. She stated that industrial carbon pricing remains important in a low carbon economy. [1]
The European Union submits a single joint climate target covering its 27 member states, as FTMQ News reported earlier. A separate analysis of 132 countries by the Global Climate and Health Alliance found that major emitters, including the European Union, are failing to make enough progress on emissions cuts despite highlighting public health. Canada held its federal election on April 28, 2025, to elect members to the 45th Canadian Parliament after Prime Minister Mark Carney advised Governor General Mary Simon to dissolve Parliament. Key issues in that campaign included the cost of living, housing, crime, tariffs against Canadian exports, and threats of annexation made by United States President Donald Trump. [2]
