A Liverpool fan went on trial at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, accused of racially abusing footballer Antoine Semenyo. The Daily Mail, the Herts Advertiser, and the Express and Star all report that the incident occurred during a Premier League match at Anfield on August 15 of last year. Prosecutor Simon Jones told the court that 47-year-old Mark Mogan, a wheelchair user, allegedly shouted a racial slur at the player approximately 30 minutes into the match as Semenyo went to take a throw-in. The Daily Mail reported that Mogan allegedly called Semenyo a racial slur and then threw chewing gum at him. According to the Daily Mail, the Herts Advertiser, and the Express and Star, the prosecution stated that the footballer froze after receiving the abuse. [1][2][3]

Semenyo is a professional footballer who plays as a winger or wide midfielder for Premier League club Manchester City and represents the Ghana national team. [4]
