Manchester City defeated ten-man Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on Sunday to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season, Al Jazeera reported. Second-half goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki secured the victory for the league leaders, according to Al Jazeera, BBC News and Manchester City FC. [1][3][10]

The match was the first for Manchester City since the club was found guilty of breaking more than 100 Premier League financial rules, Al Jazeera reported. Fans greeted the team with a hostile atmosphere, red flares, banners and chants, although the Daily Mail reported that Manchester City avoided crowds outside Anfield by using a different stadium entrance. According to BBC News, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was beaten by Haaland's strike before conceding further goals to Doku and Cherki. Liverpool defender Ronald Araujo received an early yellow card and was faulted for positioning on the first two Manchester City goals, BBC News added. [1]

Manchester City led the league table with 15 points ahead of the fixture, six points clear of sixth-placed Liverpool, Al Jazeera reported. The result leaves Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings. [3][4]
