Mont Blanc rises to over four thousand eight hundred metres following new measurements

Mont Blanc has reached a height of 4,807.47 metres above sea level, according to measurements released on Wednesday. Euronews and France 24 both report that Western Europe's highest peak is almost two metres taller than it was measured in 2023. Surveyors conducted the new calculations on 17 September 2026. [1][2]

Euronews reported that experts from the Haute-Savoie Departmental Chamber of Surveyors carried out the measurement from Saint-Gervais-Mont-Blanc. Experts explained that the increase in height is due to variations in the thickness of the mountain's snow and ice cap. [1]

Mont Blanc is located in the Graian Alps along the border between France and Italy, near Chamonix in the Haute-Savoie department and Courmayeur in the Aosta Valley region. It forms the core of the Mont Blanc massif and stands as the highest mountain in Europe outside the Caucasus Mountains. [6][7]
