The Court of Appeal has upheld the conviction of former soldier Lisa Smith for membership of the terrorist group Islamic State, The Journal and the Irish Independent reported on October 6, 2026. The three-judge court rejected all grounds raised in her appeal. [1][5]
Delivering the judgment today, Mr Justice John Edwards said there was no doubt that the circumstances of her voluntary travel to territory controlled by Islamic State could be regarded as sufficient acts of participation.
