Three men who formed part of a terrorist group that plotted to attack a mosque in Galway using pipe bombs have been jailed by the Special Criminal Court in Ireland, the Irish Examiner reported. Presiding Judge Ms Justice Caroline Biggs said that the men brought shame and embarrassment on the country. [1]

Garrett Pollock, who was deemed the most culpable of the defendants, was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison, with the final year suspended. His co-defendants Karolis Peckauskas and Darren Gorman were each given eight-year sentences, with the final year also suspended, according to the Irish Examiner. [1]

The sentences follow earlier counter-terrorism developments in Ireland, as FTMQ News reported earlier that an Irish Defence Forces bomb disposal team examined a suspected terrorist hide in County Louth following the arrest of two men in a separate investigation. [6]
