How Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner met on Romancing the Stone

As FTMQ News reported earlier, 82 year old actor Michael Douglas disclosed in his memoir One Helluva Ride that he had an affair with co star Kathleen Turner, who responded that she was looking forward to reading the book. [19]

The pair first worked together on the 1984 romantic comedy adventure film Romancing the Stone. Douglas produced the movie and starred in it as a leading man alongside Turner and Danny DeVito, with Robert Zemeckis directing from a script by Diane Thomas. The plot follows a romance novelist traveling to Colombia to rescue her sister from kidnappers. [11][15]

At the time of filming in Mexico between July and October 1983, Douglas was separated from his first wife, Diandra Luker. Douglas wrote in his memoir that he and Turner fell for each other instantly, but they agreed to deny the romance publicly and maintained a story that they were merely flirts with strong onscreen chemistry. Douglas is an Oscar winning actor and producer born in 1944 to actors Kirk Douglas and Diana Love Dill. Turner is a Golden Globe winning actress widely recognized for her deep, husky voice. Following Romancing the Stone, the duo continued their professional partnership by starring in the 1985 sequel, The Jewel of the Nile. [11][15][16][17][18]

The Mercury News reported that Douglas sought permission from Turner and other women before publishing details of their past relationships in his book. Douglas told the Los Angeles Times and The Associated Press that he chose to share these honest personal insights in his eighties for film fans. [12][14]
