Parents with a child in full time childcare in Ireland are set to save at least 1,000 euros a year as part of the upcoming budget on Tuesday, The Journal reported. The childcare package specifically targets children under the age of seven, which is the age group where parents currently pay the highest childcare fees. [1]

According to The Journal, funding for an additional wage increase for workers in the childcare sector is also being considered. The proposed increases under the National Childcare Scheme will benefit children in early years education, as well as those in junior and senior infants. [1]

Government ministers made good progress on the measures during discussions at Government Buildings late into Sunday evening, according to The Journal. Negotiations over the final details of the childcare package were set to continue on Monday ahead of the formal budget announcement. [1]

Childcare refers to the care and supervision of children by caregivers who are not their parents, typically covering children from three months to 12 years old. As FTMQ News reported earlier, discussions around childcare policy have also been prominent in the United Kingdom, where political parties have proposed various funding reforms. [2][3][4]
