Irish coalition leaders have agreed on key measures for Budget 2027 ahead of its official presentation on Tuesday afternoon, according to reports from The Journal and RTE. Ministers Jack Chambers and Simon Harris will deliver the budget details to Dail Eireann. The Journal reported that government leaders signed off on final negotiations in Government Buildings on Monday night. [1][4]
The Journal reported that leaders agreed to increase the Help to Buy tax rebate for first-time buyers by 5,000 euros. According to The Journal, the State pension will increase by 10 euros per week, while the entry point for the higher rate of income tax will rise from 44,000 euros to 46,500 euros. [1]
RTE reported that Minister for Higher Education James Lawless secured a 150 euro cut to the Student Contribution Fee, after initially seeking a 250 euro reduction. The Irish Examiner reported that college fees will be reduced by 1,500 euros for parents who have two children in college. [4][5]
Childcare measures are also set to feature in the package. The Irish Independent and The Irish Times reported that government plans include capping childcare fees at 550 euros a month for children up to senior infants, alongside improvements to after-school care supports. [2][6]
