The first enabling works for the Dart Plus West rail scheme will begin this weekend. The Irish Examiner and TheJournal.ie reported that 120 Irish Rail staff will work across the weekend to lower tracks at two bridges located between Hansfield and M3 Parkway in the west of Dublin. [1][2]
The track lowering is intended to facilitate future electrification of the rail line. Transport Minister Darragh O'Brien stated that the next six to eight years will transform rail services in Ireland. [1][2]
According to TheJournal.ie, the works will cause some disruption to rail services over the weekend. Dart Plus West is part of a broader programme aimed at tripling the electrification of the Greater Dublin Area rail network and doubling its passenger capacity. [2]
The overall project also aims to bring Dart style service frequency to Dublin rail routes serving Kilcock and M3 Parkway. [2]
