Two tropical weather systems are set to impact both the East Coast and the West Coast of the United States at nearly the same time this weekend, the New York Post reported. The simultaneous activity marks only the third time since 1963 that tropical systems have affected both American coasts together. [1]
Hurricane Isaias has strengthened in the Gulf of America to become the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, according to the New York Post. Tropical Storm Isaias originally formed off eastern Mexico with sustained winds of 40 miles per hour before intensifying, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [1][3]
On the opposite side of the country, the remnants of Hurricane Rachel are expected to push a surge of tropical moisture into California and the Southwest, the New York Post reported. Weather forecasters warn that this system will trigger heavy rain and flooding across the region. [1]
The rare dual-coast weather alignment last occurred in September, according to the New York Post. Officials continue to monitor the progress of both systems as they approach the mainland. [1]
