Dublin special school reduces pupil attendance to two days over staffing shortages

An Cosán Community Special School in Dublin 7 informed parents on Sunday that it is enforcing a reduced timetable at short notice due to severe staff shortages, RTE reported. Under the new schedule, junior pupils will attend school only on Mondays and Tuesdays, while senior pupils will attend from Wednesday to Friday. [1]
According to RTE, the school principal explained that they have been trying to recruit three teachers, three Special Needs Assistants, and two replacements for assistants on long term leave. A further four staff members are currently absent due to illness or injury. [1]
The school stated in an email sent to parents at 3pm on Sunday afternoon that there are no longer sufficient staff members to safely operate, RTE reported. [1]
