Donald Trump Returns to Texas Amid Rising Midterm Election Concerns

US President Donald Trump is heading to Texas as Republicans work to defend the longtime stronghold ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. CNN and Reuters both report that this marks his third trip to the state in less than a month. According to The Hill and Reuters, Donald Trump is visiting San Antonio to rally support for Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton. [1][3][4][7][8]

The campaign visit comes amid growing concern within the Republican party. The Guardian reported that Donald Trump stated he has no regrets about endorsing Ken Paxton despite leaked audio recordings. The Guardian said those recordings feature the state attorney general criticizing the war in Iran and high gas prices. CNN added that Ken Paxton has attempted to deflect blame for his flailing campaign. [1][3][6]

Donald Trump helped Ken Paxton defeat Senator John Cornyn in the primary election, according to msnbc.com. The outlet reported that Republicans likely require the Texas Senate seat to retain their majority in Congress. The Hill reported that Donald Trump's campaign efforts are testing the political momentum of rival candidate Talarico in the state. [4][5]

During the midterm campaign, Donald Trump has defended the economic performance of the nation. BBC News reported that he pointed to stock market indexes and low poverty rates, while arguing that the press refuses to discuss his economic record. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Saturday Night Live recently satirized President Donald Trump and Republican leaders attempting to rally voters ahead of the elections. [2][14][15]

The 2026 midterm elections are scheduled to take place on November 3, 2026. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 seats in the Senate will be contested during President Donald Trump's second term in office. The Hill noted that battleground candidates are preparing for a flurry of October debates. [1][7][12]
