Democrat Richard Pan has defeated incumbent Representative Kevin Kiley in California's 6th Congressional District. The Washington Examiner reported that the Associated Press called the election for Pan at 2 a.m. Eastern time. Pan gained 57.5% of the vote compared to 42.5% for Kiley with approximately half of the votes counted. [1]

Pan is nationally recognized for leading California's efforts to end religious exemptions for required school vaccines. He is a practicing pediatrician and professor at the University of California, Davis who previously served in the California State Senate representing the 6th Senate district from 2014 to 2022. [1][13]

Kiley, a former Republican, ran as an independent after representing a Sacramento-area district. He has served in the United States House of Representatives since 2023 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. [1][12]

The congressional contest took place in a battleground district that Democrats targeted to win control of the House of Representatives. [1]
