Democratic nominee Christina Bohannan has unseated incumbent Republican Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks in Iowa's 1st Congressional District, according to reports from CBS News and The Hill. The Washington Examiner reported that the Associated Press called the race for Bohannan at 12:08 a.m. With 90 percent of the vote counted, Bohannan secured 53.5 percent of the vote compared to 42.8 percent for Miller-Meeks. [1][2][3][4][5]

The election marked the third consecutive race between the two candidates. The Washington Examiner reported that Miller-Meeks had previously won her reelection against Bohannan in 2024 by approximately 800 votes. The Washington Examiner added that the 1st District contest was vital for Republicans trying to maintain control of the United States House of Representatives. [1][4]

Miller-Meeks has served in the House of Representatives since 2021, covering Iowa's southeastern quadrant including Davenport, Bettendorf, Burlington, and Iowa City. Prior to her congressional service, she served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021 and practiced ophthalmology in Ottumwa. As FTMQ News reported earlier in October, conservative super PACs including MAGA Inc. and the Congressional Leadership Fund had pulled funding from Miller-Meeks's district less than a month before the election.
