Democrat Brian Poindexter defeated incumbent Republican Representative Max Miller in Ohio's 7th Congressional District on Tuesday, the New York Post and the Washington Examiner reported. The Washington Examiner noted that Miller conceded the race just before midnight, even though The Associated Press had not yet officially called the election. The report added that the vote tally stood at 54.1 percent to 45.9 percent as of 12:17 a.m. [1][2]

Miller's campaign was heavily affected by personal controversies. The New York Post reported that Miller was involved in a public custody battle with his estranged spouse Emily Moreno, who is the daughter of Senator Bernie Moreno, and faced allegations regarding the treatment of their two-year-old daughter. The Washington Examiner noted that the race was dominated by domestic and substance abuse allegations against Miller, as well as voter focus on President Donald Trump's economic and foreign policies regarding Ukraine. [1][2]

Miller has served as the United States representative for Ohio's 7th congressional district since 2023 and previously worked as a political appointee in the first Donald Trump administration. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Miller faced domestic abuse allegations over the summer but denied the claims and refused to resign from office. His opponent, Poindexter, had released a campaign advertisement featuring critical comments from Senator Bernie Moreno about Miller. [10][13]

The election loss represents a major shift for the district. According to the New York Post, the northeastern Ohio district supported Donald Trump by 11 percentage points in the 2024 presidential election, and Miller had won his previous re-election bid for a second term by almost 15 percentage points.
