Damien Cahalane will not feature in the Cork senior hurling panel for the 2027 season, according to reports from the Irish Examiner, BreakingNews.ie, and the Irish Sun. Manager Ben O'Connor and his panel are due to convene later this month to begin training for the upcoming campaign. [1][2][3]
The Irish Examiner reported that Cahalane, who turns 34 years old in August, made his senior hurling debut for Cork in 2012. He switched to Gaelic football in 2013, played as a dual inter-county player in 2014, and chose to focus solely on hurling from 2015 onward. During his senior hurling career with Cork, he won four Munster Senior Hurling Championship titles. [1]
At club level, Cahalane plays as a centre-back for St Finbarr's and Castlehaven, and has served as a full-back at senior level for the Cork county team. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Cahalane played for St Finbarr's in October when they were defeated by Glen Rovers in the Cork Senior Hurling Championship final. [4][6]
Cahalane's expected departure follows the recent retirement of another veteran player. As FTMQ News reported last month, Cork hurler Séamus Harnedy announced his retirement from inter-county hurling after a 15-year career with the county. [7]
