Cork hurler Séamus Harnedy has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling, the Irish Examiner reported. The St Ita's clubman ends a 15-year career playing in the red jersey for his county. [1]
According to the Irish Examiner, Harnedy made his debut in the Waterford Crystal Cup in 2011 before becoming a core part of the Cork attack from 2013 onward. That year, he started both the All-Ireland final and the replay against Clare and earned his first All-Star award. [1]
During his inter-county career, Harnedy captained Cork to win the Munster title in 2018 and collected three All-Star awards in total, the Irish Examiner reported. At club level, Wikipedia notes that he plays for St Ita's and the Imokilly divisional side, usually lining out as a left wing-forward. [1][2]
His departure follows another high-profile retirement in the sport. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Kilkenny goalkeeper Eoin Murphy recently retired after a 16-year senior inter-county career. [3]
