A temporary ceasefire opened the way for humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations from the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky on October 28. Euronews reported that a planned humanitarian mission was agreed with the involvement of the United States. Concerns have emerged over whether civilians seeking safety will be allowed to reach Ukrainian-controlled territory. [1][7][8]

Euronews and AOL reported that residents could be transported through Russia or Moscow-occupied Crimea. These reports raised fears of forced displacement and deportation among trapped citizens. Media outlets including UA.NEWS and Odessa Journal also covered the humanitarian situation and potential threats facing civilians during the truce. [1][2][3][4]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, United States First Lady Melania Trump brokered the temporary ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The localized truce went into effect at 3:00 am local time on October 27. Ukrainian human rights commissioner Dmytro Lubinets confirmed that Ukraine was honouring the agreement to permit aid access and evacuations. [7][8]

Oleshky is located in the Kherson region on the left bank of the Dnieper River in southern Ukraine. It is the oldest city in the Kherson area and had a population of 24,124 before Russian forces occupied the city in February 2022. [1][5][8]
