Victims of Cameroon's worst railway disaster are still awaiting justice ten years after a train derailed between the capital city of Yaounde and Douala. France 24 reported that the Cameroon National Railway Intercity train crash killed 79 people and injured hundreds of others. [1]

The crash remains the country's deadliest railway accident. As France 24 reported, families and survivors are still seeking accountability a decade after the tragedy occurred on the line connecting the two major cities. [1]

The Central African nation is governed from Yaounde under President Paul Biya, who has held power since November 1982. Transport infrastructure in the country has suffered previous major incidents, including a tanker train collision and explosion in Yaounde in February 1998 that killed at least 200 people. [3][4]

Political stability in the country remains uncertain. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Cameroonians have been awaiting potential government updates following President Biya's return from an extended stay abroad. [5]
