Vice President JD Vance defended Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy during an Ohio campaign tour following backlash over a personal political ad.

Vice President JD Vance traveled through Ohio on Wednesday to campaign for Republican candidates, including gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy. The Washington Examiner, BBC News, and PBS NewsHour reported that Vance carried out a three-stop tour across the state to offer political support ahead of the upcoming election. [1][3][4]
During his campaign stops, Vance addressed a controversial attack ad released by the Ramaswamy campaign that features Donna Arthur, the estranged mother of Democratic candidate Amy Acton. According to BBC News and the New York Post, Arthur calls her daughter a liar in the video and urges citizens not to vote for her. BBC News added that Acton has not seen her mother since her stepfather was charged with childhood sexual abuse. [3][4][5]
The commercial drew sharp criticism from members of both parties. BBC News reported that Vance urged fellow Republicans to stop whining about the commercial, adding that he felt a little bit disgusted by the internal party backlash. CNN reported that Republican Representative Nancy Mace called the advertisement shameful, disgusting, and offensive. [3][5][7]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Vance previously served as a United States Senator representing Ohio before becoming Vice President. During his visit to Cincinnati on Wednesday, the Washington Examiner reported that Vance made a surprise private stop at Paycor Stadium to observe a Cincinnati Bengals practice session. [1][14]
