Cameroonians are waiting for political updates following the return of President Paul Biya to the country after spending 10 weeks abroad, Al Jazeera reported. The 93-year-old president returned to Cameroon on August 20, but no new government appointments had been announced by October 6. [1]

The prolonged absence of President Biya generated public speculation regarding his health and location, including unverified rumors that he had passed away, according to Al Jazeera. His return raised expectations that a new government might be formed. [1]

In addition to a potential cabinet reshuffle, the position of vice president remained vacant, Al Jazeera reported. The vice presidency was officially restored through a constitutional amendment passed in April. [1]

President Paul Biya has previously maintained political alliances with various Cameroonian figures, including former Secretary-General of the Union of the Peoples of Cameroon Augustin Frédéric Kodock. Other political groups in the country include the National Union for Democracy and Progress, which formed in the early 1990s and is led by Maigari Bello Bouba. [2][3]
