The eighth ranked BYU Cougars pulled off an upset by defeating second ranked Notre Dame 28 to 24 on Saturday, Fox News reported. BYU player Bear Bachmeier scored three touchdowns during the game in Provo. The victory ended a 16-game winning streak for Notre Dame. [1][2][6]

The loss for Notre Dame came after top ranked Georgia lost at home to Auburn, according to Fox News. Notre Dame had a chance to take over the top spot in national rankings before facing the undefeated Big 12 team. Prior to the game, Notre Dame entered LaVell Edwards Stadium as 10.5-point road favorites, the New York Post reported. [1][2]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Georgia had previously claimed the top spot in college football rankings after defeating Alabama 20 to 17. The earlier rankings saw several other top teams suffer major upset losses. [13]

The end of the game was marked by a one-second clock controversy, Fox News reported. Social media users questioned whether the contest was officially over as time expired. [1]
