Bernie Sanders and AOC Introduce The Strokes at New York Concert

Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a surprise appearance to introduce the rock band The Strokes at a concert in New York City on October 2. NME and Consequence both reported that the politician duo appeared before the group took the stage for their hometown show. The performance took place at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. According to Consequence, Ocasio-Cortez spoke first to greet the audience and described the group as the greatest rock band of our generation. Sanders then addressed the crowd prior to the music starting. NME and Consequence both reported that Sanders lauded the band for standing up for economic justice, fighting racism, and understanding that healthcare is a human right. [1][2]

NME reported that the concert was a one-off show for The Strokes in their hometown. The publication noted that the supporting lineup for the event included performances by Beach House, TV On The Radio, and Fcukers. [1]

Sanders is the senior United States senator from Vermont and has held his seat since 2007. He is the longest-serving independent politician in the history of the United States Congress and is regarded as a leader of the American progressive movement. [4]
