Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed acknowledged on Saturday night that his sister-in-law was involved in a federal terrorist watchlist lawsuit, Fox News reported. The acknowledgment came after Fox News senior correspondent Mike Tobin confronted El-Sayed regarding court documents that identified his sister-in-law, Mariam Jukaku, as a plaintiff in a 2016 legal challenge against her alleged placement on the federal Terrorism Screening Database. [1][3]
The lawsuit challenged her inclusion on the federal watchlist during the administration of former President Barack Obama, Fox News reported. The admission comes just days before Obama is scheduled to campaign alongside El-Sayed in his race for the United States Senate in Michigan. [1]
El-Sayed is an epidemiologist and politician who won the Democratic nomination for the 2026 United States Senate election in Michigan, Wikipedia noted. Streamlinefeed.co.ke and earlier FTMQ News reports noted that El-Sayed is facing Republican candidate Mike Rogers in a tight general election race. [2][3][6]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Obama recently released a campaign advertisement endorsing El-Sayed and is scheduled to campaign with him at the end of October. El-Sayed previously addressed past criticisms he made regarding Obama's foreign, immigration, and healthcare policies, attributing those earlier remarks to his younger self. [5][6]
