The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is spending nearly $95,000 against Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed in the general election, the Washington Examiner reported. The pro-Israel group previously spent more than $30 million trying to keep him off the November ballot. The expenditure gives el Sayed an opportunity to make the association an issue for his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers. [1][5]
The Forward and The American Prospect also reported on the renewed spending efforts by AIPAC against el Sayed. The new ad buys follow earlier efforts by the group that failed to stop el Sayed from securing the Democratic nomination in Michigan. [3][4]
Former President Barack Obama endorsed el Sayed in a new campaign ad on Monday, according to the Washington Examiner. The endorsement advert touts the progressive platform of el Sayed, who is an epidemiologist. Obama and el Sayed had already announced plans to join forces for a campaign rally in Detroit later this month. [2][5]
El Sayed is running for the United States Senate seat in Michigan. As FTMQ News reported earlier, incumbent Democratic Senator Gary Peters is not seeking a third term, and el Sayed recently faced off against Rogers in their first debate in Grand Rapids. [5][9]
