Aston Villa announced on Friday that they planned to take legal action against Carragher over what they called unacceptable insults, BBC News reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the club statement was signed by Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris after Carragher suggested manager Unai Emery should replace Michael Carrick at Manchester United. [1][11]
Carragher also told fans to shut up when responding to their criticism, according to BBC News and the Daily Mail. Carragher apologised on Saturday, describing his language as clumsy and wrong, and stated that his comments were intended to be tongue in cheek, BBC News reported. [1][2]
Although Aston Villa never formally initiated the legal proceedings, BBC News reported that the club has now officially dropped the threat following Carragher's apology. [1]
