Several Premier League clubs want Manchester City to face both retrospective punishments and future sanctions after the club was found guilty of financial breaches, the BBC reported. An independent commission found the club guilty of violating the league's financial rules between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. Manchester City have appealed against the ruling. [1][5]

The BBC and Sky Sports report that top clubs want significant consequences for the team. Sky Sports noted that rival teams do not expect Manchester City to remain in the Premier League next season if their appeal fails. Former defender Jamie Carragher stated that any sanction given to the club must cover a period of three to five years, according to ESPN. [1][4][6]

Manchester City's chief executive officer Ferran Soriano and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak maintain that the club is entirely innocent of the charges, the BBC reported. In addition to the club's legal appeal, the Solicitors Regulation Authority is set to inspect the findings of the case. [1]

Manchester City were established as St. Mark's in 1880 before taking their current name in 1894. The team plays its home matches at the City of Manchester Stadium, where they have been based since moving from Maine Road in 2003. [12]
