Archaeologists in Sweden recently discovered 45 ancient Roman silver coins during excavations on the island of Gotland. Fox News reported that the Swedish Armed Forces announced the discovery earlier in the autumn. [1]

The coins were unearthed ahead of a planned expansion of the military base for the Gotland Regiment. According to Fox News, the hoard dates from the second century AD and features images of five emperors and four empresses. Researchers believe two of the silver coins may be ancient counterfeits originating from Ukraine. [1]

Ancient Rome encompasses the Roman civilisation from the founding of Rome in the eighth century BC until the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century AD. As FTMQ News reported earlier, archaeological excavations in other regions have also uncovered second-century and fourth-century Roman coins. [4][5]
