Americans cast ballots on Tuesday in pivotal midterm elections to determine control of the United States Congress for the remainder of President Donald Trump's second term. Reports from CNBC, RFI, France 24, and DW highlighted that the outcome will decide whether Republicans keep power or Democrats take control of Congress to check the administration. [2][3][5][7]

Voters cited the economy, energy costs, and the state of democracy as central concerns during the election. According to The Guardian, early poll closings spanned several states including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Vermont, and Virginia. In Florida, Democrat Angie Nixon challenged Republican incumbent Ashley Moody in a special election, while Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff defended his seat in Georgia. [1][3]

Public polls and oddsmakers placed Democrats in a favorable position, with RFI reporting predictions that Democrats could win a House majority and potentially take the Senate. In a separate development as voters went to the polls, Reuters reported that Donald Trump stated the United States will stop four billion dollars in aid to Israel. [2][3][8]

The midterm elections involve all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate to form the 120th United States Congress. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Democrats needed a net gain of three House seats and four Senate seats to regain full control of Congress. Voters are also deciding 39 state and territorial gubernatorial races alongside various state and local contests. [12][14]

The results will shape the remainder of the president's term. CNBC noted that a Republican victory would allow the president to push policy packages with minimal resistance, whereas Democratic control of either chamber could lead to legislative gridlock and limit his remaining priorities. [2]
