Democratic Representative LaMonica McIver won re-election on Tuesday to represent the Tenth Congressional District of New Jersey, the New York Post reported. She defeated Republican challenger Carmen Bucco in a rematch of their 2024 contest. [1]
According to the New York Post, McIver secured approximately 86 percent of the vote compared to 13 percent for Bucco, with about one third of the ballots counted by 8:30 pm EST. The win comes just weeks after the 40-year-old congresswoman gave birth to her second child. [1]
McIver currently faces federal criminal charges stemming from a confrontation with federal immigration officers last year. On May 9, 2025, a skirmish took place between law enforcement and four Democratic politicians at Delaney Hall, an immigration detention center located in Newark, New Jersey. [1][2]
The New York Post reported that McIver is actively fighting to avoid going to trial over the encounter at the detention facility. [1]
