Xavier Becerra and Steve Hilton make final push in California governor race

Democratic candidate Xavier Becerra and Republican candidate Steve Hilton made final campaign appearances in the Los Angeles area on Monday ahead of Tuesday's midterm election. The New York Post, CBS 8, and FOX 40 all reported that both candidates made rounds in the region to win over voters. According to the New York Post, data shows high early turnout across California as voters cast ballots to choose the state's next governor, the next mayor of Los Angeles, and key congressional seats. The New York Post reported that Becerra, the Democratic frontrunner, joined Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass at the Homegirl Cafe in Los Angeles. On Sunday, Hilton held a rally in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, calling the area a symbol of 16 years of Democratic failure following destruction from the January 2025 wildfires, Fox News reported. According to Fox News, Hilton targeted Los Angeles-style decline during his campaign with plans addressing gas prices, housing, and crime. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Hilton previously proposed eliminating income taxes on earnings up to $150,000, while Becerra expressed willingness to consider a mileage-based tax for road repairs. Becerra previously served as the United States secretary of health and human services from 2021 to 2025 and as the attorney general of California from 2017 to 2021. Hilton previously served as director of strategy for British prime minister David Cameron from 2010 to 2012 before hosting a program on Fox News. [11][12]
