USC upsets second ranked Ohio State in Big Ten football match

The University of Southern California Trojans defeated the second-ranked Ohio State University Buckeyes 30-18 in Los Angeles on Saturday. Fox News, CBS Sports, and ESPN reported that the upset victory for coach Lincoln Riley damaged Ohio State's national championship hopes. [1][2][3][9]

The loss dropped Ohio State to a 6-2 record, CBS Sports reported. That marks the first time since 2011 that the team has recorded two losses before the month of November. CBS Sports noted that the result was only the second unranked loss of head coach Ryan Day's career at Ohio State. [3]

Tensions flared before the Big Ten Conference matchup. The New York Post reported that players from both teams had to be separated after a heated exchange during pregame warmups. [2]

Ohio State entered the game facing questions at quarterback. Fox News and CBS Sports reported that starting quarterback Julian Sayin suffered an elbow injury during a game against Indiana two weeks earlier in Bloomington, leaving Luke Fahey and freshman Taven St. Clair to lead the offense. [1][3]

Ohio State was founded in 1870 and is a public research university located in Columbus, Ohio. Fox News reported that the Buckeyes still have games remaining on their schedule against Oregon, Nebraska, and Michigan. [1][11]
