The United States Democratic Party has scored a victory in the midterm elections and taken control of both chambers of Congress, DW reported. The electoral setback for the Republican administration of President Donald Trump will subject his foreign policy to increased scrutiny until the end of his term, according to DW. [1]
DW reported that the election setback might give New Delhi and Washington space to reset their strained relations, although there is no guarantee that the United States will change its approach to India. President Trump is expected to face pushback over controversial foreign policy actions that alienated allies and involved the United States in an unpopular Middle East war, DW reported. [1]
United States midterm elections take place near the midpoint of a president's four-year term. Federal offices contested during midterms include all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 33 or 34 seats in the Senate. [2]
Prior to the midterm elections, House Judiciary Committee Democrats released a report calling for an independent special counsel to investigate President Trump's alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [4]
In short
- US Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections.
- DW reported that the midterm results could allow the US and India to reset strained relations.
- Federal midterm elections in the US always contest all 435 seats in the House of Representatives.
