President Donald Trump said he will become "Mr. Veto" if Democrats win control of Congress in the midterm elections. The Washington Examiner and Reuters both report that Trump suggested he would block legislation if the opposition party flips the House of Representatives and Senate. Trump discussed the potential shift during an interview posted on X with Miranda Devine of Fox News, according to the Washington Examiner. [1][5][6][8][9][10]

If Democrats win control, the president would face significant difficulty passing his legislative agenda without making concessions. Reuters reported that the White House is mapping out a path to govern without Congress if Democrats prevail. Meanwhile, the Washington Examiner reported that Democrats are planning to use potential majorities to force Republicans to take difficult votes on Trump's tariffs. [1][5][6][7]

United States midterm elections take place near the midpoint of a president's four year term. Voters elect members to all 435 seats in the House of Representatives alongside one third of the United States Senate. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Trump previously stated he would veto all bills if Democrats take control of either chamber of Congress. [12][14]

The Washington Post reported that Democrats are attempting to link Trump's personal wealth to economic pain felt by voters. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Democratic leaders have also suggested using congressional investigations and subpoena powers to stall the White House agenda if they secure majorities in the midterms.
