The United States State Department updated travel advisories for 13 countries in the Middle East, Fox News reported. Official warnings cited potential armed attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi forces and heightened escalation risks targeting American citizens in the region. [1]
Five countries were placed under Level 4 advisories, which is the highest alert level instructing Americans not to travel there, according to Fox News. Those five countries are Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen. Eight additional destinations, including Israel, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, were designated as Level 3, which urges travelers to reconsider their travel plans. [1]
The travel warnings follow recent security escalations across the region. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Saudi Arabia recently reopened King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh after a Houthi missile strike killed 13 people, while Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree warned that the airport remains a target. [4]
The new guidance adds to other recent global travel updates from American officials. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the United States State Department previously issued a Level 2 travel advisory for mainland China due to concerns over exit bans and the wrongful detention of citizens. [3]
