The United States government imposed a new round of Iran-related sanctions on Wednesday, targeting more than a dozen individuals and entities, UPI reported. The measures were announced separately by the State Department and the Treasury Department under the Trump administration's Operation Economic Outcast program. [1]
According to UPI, the sanctioned parties are accused of supporting Iran's shadow fleet of oil tankers, servicing sanctioned Iranian airlines, and aiding military procurement efforts. The Treasury Department highlighted specific actions against Indian businessman Suniel Kumar Sharma, age 47, and his wife, Jaspreet Preeti Shahid, age 46. [1]
International sanctions against Iran have been applied across several decades by the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union over issues including nuclear activities and military conduct. As FTMQ News reported earlier, tension between Washington and Tehran has escalated alongside domestic debate in the United States, where Representative Thomas Massie recently demanded the resignation of War Secretary Pete Hegseth over the war in Iran. [2][3]
Earlier coverage from FTMQ News also noted that Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned the United States and Israel against fresh military strikes, while indirect mediation between the nations has continued through Qatar. [4]
