President Donald Trump threatened on Friday to veto all legislation passed during the second half of his administration if Democrats take control of the House of Representatives or the Senate next month. Speaking on the South Lawn, Donald Trump told reporters that he expects Republicans to win, but added that he will veto everything if political gridlock occurs, according to the Washington Examiner. The Washington Examiner reported that Democrats are poised to take the House in the upcoming November elections. Donald Trump said that after he vetoes legislation, Democrats will come to make a deal so they can work it out. [1]

Separately, msnbc.com and PBS NewsHour reported that the Justice Department filed a lawsuit seeking to block a potential Democratic victory in the Alaska Senate race. PBS NewsHour noted that the lawsuit raised concerns about a prolonged conflict between state officials and the federal government over election certification, while msnbc.com said the legal action was directed by the president a month earlier. [6][7]

In additional political developments, CNBC reported that democratic socialist Janeese Lewis George, a city council member in Washington, D.C., is poised to become the city's next mayor. Her anticipated win follows the election of fellow democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City. [2]

Donald Trump's second presidency began on January 20, 2025, after he won the 2024 presidential election against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer previously warned that heavy spending by Republicans presented a major threat to Democratic candidates ahead of the midterm vote.
