United States President Donald Trump announced an immediate energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on Sunday, Al Jazeera and CNBC both reported. The declaration accompanied an agreement easing sanctions on Russian fuel to address rising domestic prices, with Trump asking Ukraine to refrain from attacking Russian oil infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the energy ceasefire announcement was news to him, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [1][2][15][16]

A bipartisan coalition of six United States senators, consisting of three Democrats and three Republicans, called on Trump to reverse course on the fuel arrangement, according to UPI and Politico. UPI reported that the planned imports include more than 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by 500,000 tons in November and one million tons shortly afterward. Lawmakers raised legal and moral objections to allowing Russian fuel into American markets. [4][5][6][7]

Energy analysts cited by CNBC said Trump's efforts to ease the diesel supply crunch ahead of the November midterm elections are unlikely to significantly lower consumer prices. Al Jazeera reported that the global oil supply disruptions followed the Iran-United States war and recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure. [1][2][3]

Foreign leaders also expressed skepticism regarding the announcement. Daily Sabah reported that the claim baffled officials in Kyiv as Russian military strikes continued. Forbes reported that Zelenskyy said Russia is ignoring the call for an energy ceasefire, while European officials criticized the diesel plan, according to POLITICO.eu. [8][9][11]
