Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russian forces of striking a Ukrainian power plant and energy facilities. Sky News reported the accusation came after United States President Donald Trump claimed an energy ceasefire was in place. The Daily Telegraph and BBC News both reported that Vladimir Putin broke the alleged ceasefire. [1][3][8]

Donald Trump claimed to have reached a deal with Vladimir Putin to temporarily lift sanctions on United States imports of Russian diesel. According to the Guardian, Volodymyr Zelensky stated the agreement was news to him. Donald Trump also asserted that Vladimir Putin would like to see a settlement in the Ukraine war, Arab News and The Hindu both reported. [2][6][7]

Energy and foreign policy analysts predicted the diesel arrangement will have little meaningful effect on motorists and businesses, according to the Guardian. The outlet noted that analysts expect fuel shipments to take weeks to arrive, while damage to Russian refineries makes full completion of the deal unlikely. [2]

The deal between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin has faced political backlash. CNN reported that the diesel arrangement has driven a wedge through the Western alliance, while the Telegraph reported that Republicans have turned on Donald Trump over the deal. [4][5]

Donald Trump is serving as the 47th president of the United States, while Vladimir Putin has served as President of Russia since 2012. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated Ukraine could hold elections if Russia agreed to a 60-day ceasefire. [10][11][12]
