English referee Darren England has spoken about moving past a high profile video assistant referee mistake that stalled his career three years ago, BBC News reported. The South Yorkshire official has since returned to referee major matches, including an FA Cup final and Champions League fixtures. [1]

The incident occurred during a Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, according to BBC News. England was serving as the VAR when Liverpool player Luis Diaz scored a goal that was flagged as offside on the pitch. [1]

BBC News reported that despite VAR images confirming Diaz was onside, England suffered a lapse in concentration and told the field referee check complete. The goal remained disallowed, which brought intense media scrutiny onto England and his family. [1]

Reflecting on his recovery, England told BBC News that refereeing is defined by both low points and high points as he built his career back after the error. [1]
