Radio Kerry broadcaster Lynsey Dolan has travelled to Somaliland in the Horn of Africa with the aid agency Concern Worldwide to examine how climate change affects local lives. Radio Kerry reported that Dolan visited communities in the semi-arid region where access to water is becoming a serious issue. [1]
During her visit, Dolan interviewed a 71-year-old villager who spends 12 hours every day walking and hauling water on the backs of donkeys for her family, according to Radio Kerry. The report is the final installment in a series supported by the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland alongside Concern Worldwide. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Concern Worldwide has been funding a water drilling initiative on top of a mountain in Abasa, Somaliland, to assist residents adapting to climate change. Somaliland is a partially recognised state located in the Horn of Africa with a population of approximately 6.2 million people. [4]
Radio Kerry is a licensed full-service radio station operating out of County Kerry in southwest Ireland. Global climate change involves ongoing rises in global average temperatures, primarily driven by human activities such as burning fossil fuels. [2][3]
