Aid agency Concern Worldwide is backing a mountain water project in Abasa, Somaliland, to tackle the effects of climate change. Radio Kerry reported that journalist Lynsey Dolan travelled to the Horn of Africa to visit the initiative, which involves boring into the ground and drilling for water on top of a mountain. [1]

During her visit to Abasa, Dolan spoke with Kenneth Zieecon, the programme director for Concern Worldwide in Somaliland. According to Radio Kerry, the report is part of a broader series supported by the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland alongside Concern Worldwide. [1]

Somaliland is a partially recognised state situated on the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden in the Horn of Africa. It has a population of approximately 6.2 million people, and its capital and largest city is Hargeisa. [3]

The territory functions as a presidential republic with its own currency, national army, and police force. Its economy relies heavily on livestock exports to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, diaspora remittances, and infrastructure projects like the Berbera port. [4]
