Climate change is becoming an increasing threat to brain health across Europe as rising temperatures and environmental pressures mount, Euronews, Yahoo News Singapore, and Yahoo all reported. The outlets noted that higher temperatures, poor air quality, and the spread of infectious diseases threaten to increase the prevalence of neurological conditions. Vulnerable communities face the greatest risks from these environmental changes. [1][3][4]

Neurological disorders affect approximately one in three people over their lifetime, according to estimates cited by neurologist Ulf Kallweit in Euronews. Kallweit serves as a co-chair of the environmental influences task force at the European Academy of Neurology. The conditions impacted by these changing environmental factors range from migraines to dementia and Parkinson's disease. [1]

Climate change has also affected physical and mental health in specific regions, such as the United Kingdom. Health threats in the region include heatwaves, floods, storms, air pollution, and new infectious diseases as the climate becomes warmer with drier summers and wetter winters. [5]

European nations have taken various approaches to handle climate challenges and environmental impacts. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the Portuguese city of Guimaraes has expanded green corridors to combat extreme heat risks after being named the European Green Capital for 2026. Meanwhile, French greenhouse gas emissions dropped in the first half of 2026 due to elevated fuel costs. [8][9]
