Police officers in Scotland will accompany fire crews to protect them from anti-social behaviour during Bonfire Night. BBC News reported that as many as 1,700 police officers could be deployed. This represents the largest Police Scotland operation since a visit by Donald Trump last year. [1][2][3]

Official figures show the fire service handled about 750 calls and attended more than 250 bonfires on Bonfire Night last year. BBC News noted that between 31 October and 5 November 2025, police received just over 830 calls requiring a local or specialist response. That figure marked a reduction of more than one third compared to the previous year. [1][3]

Authorities are taking additional preventative measures ahead of the event. According to the BBC, police seized 12,000 pounds worth of fireworks intended for online sale prior to Bonfire Night. [4]

Bonfire Night includes annual events marked by bonfires and fireworks, such as Guy Fawkes Night in Great Britain. The observance originated from spontaneous bonfires lit across London on 5 November 1605 to mark the king's deliverance following the Gunpowder Plot. [11][14]
