Phil Vetrano urges justice for father of Brooklyn jogger stabbed in neck

Phil Vetrano has urged the father of a woman who was stabbed while jogging in Brooklyn to make finding her attacker his main focus, the New York Post reported on Sunday. Katie Suarez, a 28-year-old bank teller, was left brain-dead after she was stabbed in the neck on a Brooklyn waterfront promenade on Friday evening. Vetrano noted eerie similarities between the incident and the murder of his own daughter. [1]

Vetrano, who is 70 years old, told the New York Post that the family of Suarez should not stop until they get justice for the attack. He discovered the body of his daughter on a running path in Queens ten years ago. [1]

Karina Anne Vetrano was 30 years old when she was attacked and murdered while running in Spring Creek Park in the Howard Beach neighborhood of Queens. Her case went unsolved for nearly six months before DNA evidence linked a suspect to the crime. Chanel Lewis was arrested in February 2017, and after a mistrial in 2018, he was convicted of murder and sexual abuse in March 2019 and sentenced to life imprisonment. [2][3]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, stabbings involving severe neck injuries have prompted recent police investigations in other jurisdictions. In October, Shannon Royal died in Australia after suffering catastrophic brain damage from a neck wound in late September. [4]
