Actor Paul Rudd stars in director Tom McCarthy's new film A Statement, according to Variety, Deadline, and The Hollywood Reporter. Variety reported that Rudd plays the moderator of a conference focused on addressing the climate crisis in the United States. Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter both reported that the film centers on a group of experts gathering at a Florida venue in 1980 to address carbon dioxide emissions. [1][2][4]

Variety reported that the plot follows 20 experts who gather in a conference room over a weekend to draft a statement to Congress. The experts must hash out their differences over the effects of carbon dioxide emissions on the climate, Variety added. Deadline noted that the conference brought together politicians, academics, scientists, and environmentalists. [1][2]

The film features an ensemble cast that includes Paul Giamatti, Evan Peters, Tatiana Maslany, Jason Clarke, Amy Ryan, and John Turturro, according to reviews by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter. Variety also reported that Rudd has stopped bringing his smartphone to film sets, quoting the actor as saying he is addicted like everybody else. [1][2][4]

Rudd made his film debut in 1995 opposite Alicia Silverstone in Clueless and starred in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. His career began in 1992 with a recurring role in the television series Sisters, and he later appeared in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet in 1996. [7]
