Willem Dafoe highlights teamwork in new Mount Everest film Tenzing

Actor Willem Dafoe spoke in New York on October 10 about his role in the new mountain climbing film Tenzing, UPI reported. Dafoe stated that teamwork on and off the screen was integral to the production, which tested his physical limits. The film follows the 1953 expedition that achieved the first successful summit of Mount Everest. [1][6]

According to UPI, the movie is directed by documentarian Jennifer Peedom. Dafoe plays British Army Colonel John Hunt, who led the climbing team. The cast also includes Genden Phuntsok as Himalayan climber Tenzing Norgay and Tom Hiddleston as New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary. [1]

UPI reported that actors and Sherpas worked closely together during filming. Dafoe noted that the actors from Australia and New Zealand, alongside the rest of the cast and crew, had to assist one another throughout the shoot. IMDb reported that the film was selected to open the Zurich Film Festival, while Apple hosted a premiere event in New York, according to The Mac Observer. [1][4][6]

Dafoe is an American actor born on July 22, 1955, in Appleton, Wisconsin, who has received nominations for four Academy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards over his career. Mountaineering at extreme altitudes involves entering what is known as the death zone, an area above 8,000 metres where oxygen levels are insufficient to support human life for extended periods.
