More than a third of the post offices operating inside the TG Jones retail chain will close by early 2027, according to the Guardian. Analysis of Post Office records shows that 36 branches inside the chain have closed so far this year, with an additional 34 locations scheduled to shut their doors by early 2027. [1]
The Guardian reported that the scheduled closures have raised fears that several towns and city centres could be turned into postal deserts. TG Jones is the high street chain formerly known under the WH Smith brand. [1]
The retail business was acquired and renamed by the private equity group Modella last year, according to the Guardian. The company underwent a restructure that received approval from its creditors in July. [1]
